    Eyes & Ears

Non-negotiable. No range will let you on the line without both — and a good set makes the whole day more comfortable.

    ZOHAN EM054 Electronic Shooting Earmuffs

    Checklist · Electronic Hearing Protection

    ZOHAN EM054 Electronic Shooting Earmuffs

Electronic muffs block the blast of a gunshot but amplify normal sounds, so you can hear your instructor and range commands without lifting a cup off your ear.

    • NRR 22 dB; cuts off sound above 82 dB and amplifies voices up to 4X
    • Slim, low-profile cups with an adjustable headband; folds for your range bag
    • Runs on 2 AAA batteries (about 350 hours) with 4-hour auto shut-off

    PRO TIP

At indoor ranges, wear foam plugs under your muffs. Doubling up is what experienced shooters do.

    Pyramex Mini Ztek Safety Glasses

    Checklist · Safety Glasses

    Pyramex Mini Ztek Safety Glasses

Glasses protect your eyes from ejected brass, debris and fragments. Standard men's frames often leave gaps at the temples on a smaller face; these are sized to close them.

    • Meets ANSI/ISEA Z87.1-2020 High Impact
    • Petite, frameless wraparound fit with built-in nosepiece and non-slip temple tips
    • Polycarbonate lens blocks 99% of UVA/B/C; anti-fog version available

    What to Wear

Dress for the line, not for the photo. Hot brass is a rite of passage nobody needs.

Under Armour Women's HeatGear Compression Short Sleeve

Checklist · Layering Tank or Tee

Under Armour Women's HeatGear Compression Short Sleeve

Spent casings eject hot. A closed crew neck and a snug fit leave no gap for brass to drop into, so you stay focused on your shot instead of doing the brass dance.

    • Closed crew neck with a second-skin compression fit
    • Moisture-wicking, quick-drying polyester/elastane blend
    • Flatlock seams reduce chafing under a holster and belt

    PRO TIP

Complete the outfit with a brimmed cap (it keeps brass from bouncing between your glasses and your face) and closed-toe shoes.

    Holsters & Carry

A quality holster covers the trigger, holds the gun securely, and is the foundation of safe carry.

Eclipse Holsters Intrepid IWB with UltiClip

    Checklist · Custom Kydex Holster

Eclipse Holsters Intrepid IWB with UltiClip

A custom-molded Kydex holster fully covers the trigger guard and retains your specific pistol. Eclipse was founded by Jessica Hazelaar, instructor of the Armed Female Academy's Precision Carry course.

    • Handmade Kydex in the USA, molded to your exact pistol model
    • UltiClip attaches to waistbands without a belt: jeans, leggings or slacks
    • Lifetime warranty against defects, per Eclipse

    PRO TIP

Order by your exact make and model (and optic, if you have one). A holster that fits "close enough" is not safe.

    Galco UnderWraps Belly Band 2.0

    Checklist · Belly Band Holster

    Galco UnderWraps Belly Band 2.0

A belly band lets you carry with clothing that has no belt loops: leggings, dresses, workout wear. It's the most flexible option for a woman's wardrobe.

    • Elastic band with two leather holster pockets; ambidextrous
    • Wear strongside, cross-draw or appendix, at the waist or higher
    • Sizes S (30–34") to XL (48–52"); not compatible with red-dot optics

    PRO TIP

Measure where you'll actually wear the band, not your pant size, and practice your draw with an unloaded gun before you carry.

KORE Essentials Tactical Nylon Gun Belt (1.5")

    Checklist · Gun Belt

KORE Essentials Tactical Nylon Gun Belt (1.5")

A fashion belt sags under the weight of a holstered gun. A reinforced gun belt keeps your holster stable and your gun where your hand expects it.

    • Holeless ratchet track adjusts in 1/4" steps for a precise fit
    • Reinforced core resists sag under a holster
    • One size, cut to fit: adjusts from 24" to 54"

    PRO TIP

For inside-the-waistband carry, cut the belt to your pant size plus about 6" so there's room for the holster.

    Checklist · Speed Loader

    HKS 36-A Speedloader (Revolver Owners)

    • Turn the knob to release all rounds into the cylinder at once

    Ammunition

We don't link to ammunition sellers, but here's exactly what to buy.

    Buying Ammunition: A Simple Guide

Amazon doesn't sell ammunition, and neither do we. Buy it at your range or a local sporting-goods store. Here's what to ask for.

    Match your caliber

The caliber is stamped on your barrel or slide (for example "9mm Luger" or ".38 Special"). The box must match exactly.

    Practice rounds

Full metal jacket (FMJ) "target" or "range" ammo is the affordable choice for practice. Bring 100 to 200 rounds for a beginner session.

    Defensive rounds

Jacketed hollow point (JHP) is the common choice for carry. Fire at least a box through your gun to confirm it feeds reliably.

    • Call your range first. Some indoor ranges require you to buy their ammunition or ban steel-cased rounds.
    • Store ammunition cool, dry and locked, separate from your firearm if children live in or visit your home.
    • Ammunition purchase laws vary by state. Some require ID checks or background checks at the counter.

    Targets

Instant feedback is the fastest way to learn.

    Birchwood Casey Shoot•N•C 8" Bull's-Eye Targets

    Checklist · Reactive Targets

    Birchwood Casey Shoot•N•C 8" Bull's-Eye Targets

Every hit blooms a bright ring, so you can see where your shots land without walking downrange or squinting through binoculars.

    • Hits show a bright chartreuse ring instantly
    • Self-adhesive backing works indoors or out
    • Repair pasters included to extend each target's life

    PRO TIP

Start close at 3 to 5 yards. Tight groups up close build more confidence than scattered hits far away.
