    About Amara

Amara Barnes founded the Women Gun Owners Association of America in 2021 after walking into a gun store as a new shooter and walking out with more confusion than answers. Sales counters talked over her. Training environments weren't built for her. The information was scattered, intimidating, or incomplete.

She wasn't looking to be tactical. She was looking to be competent.

So she built what she couldn't find. Today WGOAA is a national education platform, and Amara is a certified firearms instructor who has trained more than 17,969 women through the Safe Start Course, the Armed Female Academy, and live events across the country.

Her most important credential isn't on a certificate. Amara spends her working hours in 911 dispatch, which means she has listened, in real time, to what happens in the minutes before help arrives. She has heard how fast an ordinary evening turns, how long two minutes actually lasts, and how often the outcome depends on what a woman already knew how to do. That is the experience behind every course and every article she writes — not theory, and not bravado.

She teaches the way she wishes someone had taught her: fit before brand, composure before speed, and skill before gear.
