Willapa Firearms Training

My name is Heath Layman and I am the owner/operator of Willapa Firearms Training (WFT) located in Raymond, SW Washington State.

WFT is a firearms education/training business with a private range that offers services to citizens of good repute and law enforcement since 2018.  

I have been a police officer since 1993 and a firearms instructor since 2003.  I am certified to teach firearms through the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WA CJTC), the NRA Law Enforcement Division, the NRA, and the National Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor’s Association (NLEFIA). 

Through the NRA Instructor Program, I teach LE Pistol, LE Rifle, Home Firearm Safety, Pistol, Rifle, Personal Protection in the Home, Range Safety Officer, Chief Range Safety Officer, CCW, Basic Instructor Training, and Refuse to be a Victim.  

I’m certified for advanced instruction for Active Shooter, Live-Fire Vehicle Engagements, Red Dot Sights for Duty Pistols, and Advanced Firearms Instructor.  I’m also an armorer for several different firearm platforms including the AR15.

In 2009 I spearheaded the creation of a multi-agency firearms training unit in Grays Harbor County, bringing together area agencies to perform quarterly firearms training and qualifications.  In this capacity, I not only provide basic and advanced firearms instruction to area officers but I also write and approve curriculums for the involved agencies.   

I also provide instruction, in a private capacity, to the Long Beach Police Department and the Quinault Indian Nation Police Department and QIN Fish and Game.

I’ve been an NRA Training Counselor (certifying instructor trainer) since January 2021 and an NLEFIA Staff Instructor (certifying LE Instructors for basic and advanced training) since January 2022.
